Ready to ditch the refined processed sugar? Here is one of our favourite whole food sweeteners – date paste. Dates are full of vitamins, minerals and fibre – refined white sugar not so much! B-vitamins are essential for your metabolic and emotional health (among many other functions).
You can use date paste in your baking and cooking. When using it in baking decrease the amount of sugar called for in half and substitute date paste. This paste keeps in the fridge for a week or in the freezer for months. I like to have a container in the freezer since the paste won’t freeze solid I can just grab a tablespoon whenever I need it.
- 1 cup dates
- 1/2 cup water
- Remove pits from dates
- Place in blender with water and blend until smooth.
